Same Surveillance, New Tech

Inspired by Joy Buolamwini’s Ted Talk “How I’m Fighting Algorithmic Bias” My group and I presented “Same Surveillance, New Tech”, a presentation focused on algorithmic bias and the implications it can have on BIPOC individuals. We highlight how facial recognition technology often mistakes the faces of black or darker-skinned people. This can lead to dangerous mistakes, such as wrong arrests, and can reinforce systematic racism, but this time, through technology.
